YSP Childrens Events

If you're looking for something to do with the children this weekend don't miss the Paper Palace workshops at 10.30am, 1pm and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday at YSP. For just a pound you can create fairy-tale characters to inhabit a magical paper town lit by lanterns. Meet in the auditorium.

Found this event that was put on at the YSP on Saturday 30th January 2010. This was a creative event for children to take part in.
These are the type of events which would benefit from the friendship scheme.
The couples don't necessarily need to know the children but can be aware of the benefits they are giving them.

Styling of Graphics: Sanna Annukka

These are some graphics done by Sanna Annukka who is a half English, half Finnish illustrator.

What does the park offer at the moment?

(Above): Here is a small range of leaflets and hand-outs which we picked up when visiting the YSP.
These included;
- The Friendship Scheme forms and way of payment etc
- What's on?
- Map of the park
- And information from the exhibitions
- Price lists for various showcased artists work

Styling of Graphics: Rob Ryan

These are some examples of work done by Rob Ryan, who at the minute has some of his work displayed at the YSP.
We would like to have our graphic stylings of a similar nature to Rob Ryan's graphically, which we would design ourselves to appear on our products.

Friendship Scheme

Definition of friendship:

dictionary.com defines friendship as:
1) the state of being a friend; association as friends:to value a persons friendship
2) a friendly relation or intimacy
3) friendly feeling ro disposition

In the case of a friendship scheme however, it is describing a two way relationship between a person (or particular group of people) and a company/ charity/ organisation.

Target Audience
Our chosen target audience is 'infertile couples aged 35-50'.

The park can help the couple, by offering a place to get away, and a beautiful, relaxed setting for them to bond. But by promoting the park to lots of couples who are infertile, this would mean that couples would also have the choice of discussing any issues (with other people who are going through the same thing, or possibly an on-site proffesional).
The couple's contributions to the park could go towards activities and events for children.

As the couple are middle aged (as they have realised they are unable to have children) they would probably have an established lifestyle: jobs, a home, and a car. This is the perfect audience for a friendship scheme, as they can afford to make donations, or buy products, and can drive to the park whenever they want.

Woodland Nature

We have chosen a woodland nature to base some of are product designs around. In woodland nature there are many animals which can be found here are some of my suggestions for design idea's.

Each individual woodland habitat has varied animals. Common animals in the woodland habitat include:

Land animals: snowshoe hare, roe deer, white-tailed deer, bobcat, mountain lion, lynx, black and grizzly bear, red wolf, red fox, badger, squirrel, raccoon, skunk and gray wolf.

Sky animals: woodpecker, magpie, peregrine falcon, tawny owl, woodpecker, jay, wood pigeon, willow warbler and goldcrest.

All about beetles, grasshoppers, ladybirds, moths, butterflies, wasps and many more

Who's affected and what's next?

http://www.womens-health.co.uk/realizing-and-acknowledging-infertility.html

I found this link regarding the percentage of infertile couples in the UK. As you can imagine it is an extremely emotional experience to go through for both the male and the female in the relationship. It is "a mind-altering experience" which can effect individuals in many ways including self-esteem, finances and the couples' relationship as a whole! This link also confirms that many couples facing the situation of infertility can be "reticent to share their experiences with others". Approximately 15% of married couples in the UK experienced infertility in 2009! The article also says that it is vital that communication between the couple remains open. Working together is important to get through this time.

In relation to this article I think this supports the groups idea of the need for a safe and calm retreat for couples in this type of emotional situation to relax and enjoy the open space/landscape. A place where they can be free from questions and judgment they may feel in other public places. No one has to know who they are unless they volunteer that information to other couples in similar or equal situations, and can use the park as a place to help them through the experience - either together or just as a couple.
