I found this link regarding the percentage of infertile couples in the UK. As you can imagine it is an extremely emotional experience to go through for both the male and the female in the relationship. It is "a mind-altering experience" which can effect individuals in many ways including self-esteem, finances and the couples' relationship as a whole! This link also confirms that many couples facing the situation of infertility can be "reticent to share their experiences with others". Approximately 15% of married couples in the UK experienced infertility in 2009! The article also says that it is vital that communication between the couple remains open. Working together is important to get through this time.
In relation to this article I think this supports the groups idea of the need for a safe and calm retreat for couples in this type of emotional situation to relax and enjoy the open space/landscape. A place where they can be free from questions and judgment they may feel in other public places. No one has to know who they are unless they volunteer that information to other couples in similar or equal situations, and can use the park as a place to help them through the experience - either together or just as a couple.
